Since his wife, Nancie, divorced him, Wren Nickelson has felt like a failure. But finding himself with spare time, Wren decides to take up the one thing he's always wanted to do: write.

One day, as Nancie drops off their two daughters for a weekend visit, she spies Wren's manuscript. Unable to squelch her curiosity, she begins to read it - and after finding that her ex-husband has used her name for the selfish heroine, Nancie feels she must finish the story.
