"Two-Dollar Bill" is one in a series of novels by Stuart Wood featuring suave Stone Barrington, New York City detective turned attorney. In this episode Stone is on his home turf facing down a flamboyant Texan flimflam man. It starts while Stone is having dinner with his ex-partner, Dino, when they are joined by the , Billy Bob, and the head of the law firm Stone works for. The action starts when Stone and Billy Bob are departing the restaurant and escalates from there. It eventually unfolds that Billy Bob has more than one alias. He is also being pursued by the CIA. As more pieces fall into place, NYPD and the New York Attorney General's office become involved. There is, of course, Stone's new affair with the new assistant Attorney General, and then the appearance of a past love, all intertwined with the activities of Billy Bob. The story has the expected smart banter and some interesting plot twists. This is an easy read.
