During Advent the Roman liturgy celebrates the two comings of the Lord: the First Coming in lowliness, when in the fullness of time (see Galatians 4:4) the Lord took flesh of the Blessed Virgin Mary and came into the world to save the human race; the Second Coming in glory, when at the end of time the Lord will come "to judge the living and the dead" (Creed) and to lead the just into the house of his Father, where Mary has preceded them in glory.
