The trouble with Mr Prout was, that although he was extremely good at expounding rules and regulations, and even had a go at explaining why it was necessary for pleadings to exist, he was never very convincing as to the latter, nor was he able to communicate what I might pompously describe as the philosophical underlay to the process of legal drafting.
