THE WORD "PENTATEUCH," from the Greek for "five (penta) books (teuchos)," has entered English by way of Latin as the designation for the first group of books in the Hebrew Bible, comprising Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
