Đuro Daničić (original surname: Popović) was a Serbian and Croatian philologist. A follower of Vuk Karadžić, his works helped define the modern Serbian and Croatian standard languages ("Rat za srpski jezik i pravopis", "Mala srpska gramatika", "Rječnik iz književnih starina srpskih", "Srpski akcenti", he was the first editor of "Rječnik hrvatskoga ili srpskoga jezika" (1880-1976), the largest Croatian and Serbian dictionary); translated the Old Testament into Serbo-Croatian.
